FAQ

What do I need to do to book a session?

Once we have determined a date for your session, I will email you a Session Agreement and link to your deposit/payment.  Please note sessions are not considered “booked” until both the Session Agreement and Deposit have been received.

When should I book my session?

I book 2-3 sessions a week.  Weekends fill up quickly during the Summer and Fall so I advise booking 3-4 weeks in advance during this time.  For newborn sessions, I recommend booking 6 weeks prior to your due date.  I use your due date to reserve your session.

When and where will my session take place?

There are lots of wonderful locations around San Diego County.  You can choose a nearby location or I can suggest some options.  Outdoor sessions are typically booked 1-2 hours before sunset for the best lighting conditions (or early morning for those late summer months when your little one can’t stay up late).  Newborn Sessions take place in the comfort of your home.  Once your little bundle of you arrives I schedule his/her session at 6-14 days “new”.

What should I wear?

For Family Sessions:  Try to coordinate outfits without looking overly “matchy.” Avoid wearing the same colors and instead, find a color palette you love and piece together items from that palette that are complimentary to one another.  Consider solid colors or faint patterns.  Busy, loud patterns or logos tend to draw too much attention to the outfit.  Add accessories to pump up an un-inspiring ensemble. A hat, scarf, and boho necklace can give a lackluster outfit the right amount of punch and provide great pops of color. Bright hues in small doses are great!  Layers are fantastic for boys and for girls. Add in the layers (jackets, vests, leggings, and tights) and accessories (hats, scarves, necktie or bowties, and headbands) to give your kids’ outfits that stylized look.

For Maternity Sessions:  The #1 tip I can give you for outfit selection is to choose clothing that are fitted over your belly. Bulky, loose fabrics can be unflattering but fitted tops look great and really emphasize the beauty of your pregnancy.  If you can fit into your (unbuttoned) pre-pregnancy jeans and want any bare belly shots, I recommend non-maternity jeans. Unbuttoned regular jeans are less distracting in photos than the band on maternity jeans. Another option for bare belly shots is an elastic-waist long skirt or pants that fasten below the belly.  I love dresses too and also have a variety of “maternity gowns” that you are welcome to use.
